Zones and Spaces
Zones and spaces are two ways to organize locations within your building. They serve different purposes but work together to give a complete picture of your site.
Spaces
Spaces represent the physical layout of your building β floors, rooms, and areas. They describe where things are. Use spaces to model the three-dimensional structure of your site.
To manage spaces, open the Spaces tab in your project. You can add spaces individually or import them in bulk. For technical details, see Spaces.
Zones
Zones represent logical groupings defined by how systems operate β HVAC zones, lighting zones, fire alarm zones, and so on. A zone can span multiple spaces. For example, a single VAV zone might cover three offices and a conference room.
To manage zones, open the Zones tab in your project. For technical details, see Zones.
How They Work Together
Spaces tell you where something is. Zones tell you how itβs controlled. An office (space) might belong to a VAV zone, a lighting zone, and a fire alarm zone β all at the same time. Together, they provide the context needed to understand how your building systems relate to the physical environment.
