How Access Works

You give people access to your buildings in one of two ways: add them to your organization, or invite them to a single project. This page explains how access works, which to use, and how.

Roles at a Glance

Organization roles:

Role What they can do
Admin Everything a Member can, plus manage members, billing, and keys
Member Work on every project in the organization as a Manager

Project roles, for people invited from outside your organization:

Role What they can do
Manager Full control of the project, including settings and invites
Collaborator Configure sources, assets, spaces, zones, and logic
Viewer View project data only

For a complete list of what each role can do, see Access and Permissions.

Choosing How to Give Access

Who How to give access What they get
Your own staff Add them to your organization Manager access to every project
Someone who also manages your organization Add them as an organization Admin Every project, plus billing and members
Consultants, vendors, contractors, or customers Invite them to a project The role you choose, on that project only

Organization members automatically have access to every project your organization owns, including projects you create later. You never need to add them to individual projects.

Add Someone to Your Organization

  1. Open your organization and select Settings.
  2. Select Members or Invites, then click Invite Member.
  3. Enter their email address and choose Member or Admin.

They’ll receive an email invitation. Once they accept, they can open any of your organization’s projects. See Organization Settings for more.

Invite Someone to a Project

  1. Open the project and select Settings.
  2. Select Team or Invites, then click Invite.
  3. Enter their email address and choose a role: Manager, Collaborator, or Viewer.

Choose the lowest role they need. Use Viewer for stakeholders who only need to see data, and Collaborator for people who configure sources and points.

See Who Has Access

The Team page in project settings lists everyone who can access the project. The Access column shows whether each person has access through the Organization or as an External user invited to the project.

Shared Projects

If you’ve been invited to projects outside your own organizations, they appear on your Shared Projects page. Open it from the organization menu in the top-right corner, next to Help.

To leave a project you no longer need, open Shared Projects, click the menu on the project’s row, and select Leave Project.
