Novant Platform Overview
Novant is a cloud-based platform that provides unified data infrastructure for smart buildings. It delivers a modern browser-based UI for configuration, visualization, and management, while leveraging edge nodes to securely connect with on-site building management system (BMS) data and other local devices.
The platform is designed to collect, model, and store building data so it can be used consistently across a wide range of internal and external applications.
Architecture
Novant Cloud – Provides centralized management, data processing, and secure access from any location.
Browser UI – Accessible from any modern web browser for project setup, monitoring, and administration.
Edge Nodes – Hardened or virtual devices deployed on-site to bridge between local networks and the Novant Cloud. Edge nodes handle protocol integration with BMS systems, sensors, and other devices, and stream data securely to the platform.
API – A secure REST API for reading, writing, and managing modeled data, trends, and configurations. Enables seamless integration with external applications and automation workflows.
Capabilities
Data Modeling – Standardized, ontology-driven modeling ensures consistency in how assets, points, and metadata are defined across projects.
Trend Storage – Long-term storage for historical data, used in analytics, reporting, and integration..
Live Data – Real-time values from connected devices and systems are available through the platform for dashboards, analytics, and control logic.
Integrations – The platform acts as the core data hub, enabling seamless connectivity to downstream solutions—such as analytics, fault detection, energy optimization, and third-party applications—via APIs and connectors.
Role in the Building Technology Stack
Novant serves as the foundational layer for building data infrastructure. By unifying device connections, standardized modeling, and secure data storage, it allows owners, operators, and solution providers to work from a single, reliable source of truth. This reduces integration complexity and accelerates deployment of advanced building applications.
