Providers
A provider is an organization that manages building systems for other organizations: a systems integrator, controls contractor, or MSI. Customers connect a provider to their organization, and everyone on the provider’s team gets access to that customer’s projects without being added to the customer’s organization. This page is the complete reference for how providers work.
Provider Organizations
Any organization can become a provider by adding the Provider add-on. The provider’s team is simply its organization members, so there is nothing separate to manage: add or remove members in the provider organization and their access to every connected customer follows.
A provider organization keeps working like any other organization. It can own its own projects (for example an office, demo, or training project), and its members are Managers on those projects as usual.
Connecting a Provider
A customer connects a provider by inviting it, and an admin of the provider organization accepts:
- An admin of the customer organization invites the provider, either to the whole organization or to a single project, and chooses a role.
- The provider’s admins receive an email invitation.
- A provider admin accepts. Access is granted immediately and the customer’s admins are notified.
A provider can also create a new customer organization directly. See Creating Customer Organizations.
Access Grants
Each connection has an access grant that is either organization-wide or per-project, never both:
| Grant | Scope | Roles |
|---|---|---|
| Organization-wide | Every project, including new ones | Admin, Manager, Collaborator, or Viewer |
| Per-project | Only the projects the customer invited | Manager, Collaborator, or Viewer per project |
Adding an organization-wide grant replaces any per-project grants for that provider and withdraws its pending project invitations. To change a grant, remove the provider and invite it again with the new access.
Admin Grants
An Admin grant gives the provider’s admins the same rights as the customer’s own organization admins: creating, resizing, and deleting projects; managing members, settings, API keys, and billing; and managing other providers. The provider’s other members are Managers on every project.
The only difference from a direct admin: a provider can’t add its own members as direct members of the customer organization, since they already have access through the provider.
Effective Access
Provider access is combined with every other way a person can reach a project, and the highest role wins:
- Organization admin or member – Manager.
- Provider member – the role granted to the provider.
- Project team member – the role assigned when they were invited.
If someone is a member of more than one connected provider, they get the highest role any of them grants.
Provider access is active only while:
- the provider’s add-on is active, and
- the provider organization itself is active.
If the add-on is suspended or cancelled, or the provider organization is suspended or disabled, all of its staff immediately lose access to every connected customer. Access returns when the provider is active again.
Visibility
Providers see only what their access grant allows:
- Connected Orgs lists each customer with the provider’s role and the number of projects it can open. Organization-wide grants show All; per-project grants show only the projects granted, never the customer’s total.
- A customer’s plan, billing, usage, and account status are never shown to a provider, unless it has an Admin grant.
Customers see every connected provider under Organization Settings › Providers, along with its role, projects, and number of members.
Everyone with access to a project can see which external organizations and providers have access to it, from the avatars in the project header.
Creating Customer Organizations
A provider admin can create a new organization for a customer from Connected Orgs › New Customer Org. The new organization:
- uses the plan you choose, on annual invoice billing, and starts its subscription immediately; the first invoice is sent to the billing email
- is connected to the provider with an Admin grant
- invites the customer contact as its first admin
The provider can start work right away; nothing waits for the owner to accept. The owner must be someone at the customer, never a member of the provider organization. Until the owner accepts, organization notifications go to the provider’s admins.
Removing a Provider
- The customer removes a provider from Organization Settings › Providers, or a project-level provider from the project’s Team page.
- The provider removes a customer from Connected Orgs.
Removing a connection revokes every grant for it immediately. To reconnect, the customer must invite the provider again.
Provider Add-on
The Provider add-on is available on the Plus plan or higher, billed annually on invoice. See Plans and Limits for tiers and pricing.
